Privacy Policy
This is the same Privacy Policy you see in the TaskOak app. It applies to the app for customers and professionals. This website itself uses no cookies, no analytics and no trackers.
1. What this explains
This policy explains what TaskOak collects about you, why, who can see it, how long it is kept, and what you can do about it. It applies to the TaskOak app for customers and professionals.
2. What we collect
Your account: name, email address, phone number, and whether you are a customer or a professional. Your password is handled by Google Firebase Authentication; TaskOak never sees it. If you sign in with Google or Apple, they tell us your name and email address; we never see your Google or Apple password.
Your bookings: the service, date, time, price, status, and the address, access instructions and notes you choose to enter.
Your messages, and the photos and PDFs you send in them.
If you are a professional: your business name, category, area, prices, description, photo, working hours, and your bank account (checked with Paystack; TaskOak keeps only its last four digits). To be verified you also send your legal name, a photo of an identity document and a selfie.
Your reviews and any reports you make.
Your help requests (support cases): what you write when you ask TaskOak staff for help, and how it was resolved.
Technical details: a token that lets us send you notifications, and, in the released app, a report when the app crashes (the phone model, system version and what went wrong; never your name, email or phone number).
TaskOak does not ask for your phone's location. You choose the area you want to search in.
The assistant: what you type to the TaskOak Assistant, and your selected area, are sent to Google's Gemini AI model, run in Belgium, so it can write an answer. TaskOak does not save your questions or the answers; it keeps only a count of how many you have asked today. Do not type passwords, card numbers or other secrets into it. The assistant can make mistakes: check a professional's profile before you book.
3. Why we use it
To run the service: to show you professionals, make and manage bookings, let you message each other, take and refund payments, and send you notifications. To keep people safe: to check identities, handle reports and block abuse. To meet our legal duties, such as keeping payment records. And to find and fix faults.
4. Who can see it
Everyone signed in can see a professional's public page: business name, area, prices, description, photo, rating, verified status and reviews (with the reviewer's name). The other person in a booking or conversation can see what is needed to carry it out, including the address and notes for a booking. TaskOak staff can see reported messages and reviews, help requests, and, only until a decision is made, the identity document and selfie of someone asking to be verified. Every look at identity documents is recorded. We do not sell your data.
5. Who handles it for us
Google (Firebase) provides sign-in, the database, file storage, notifications and crash reports, and Google's Gemini model answers the assistant's questions. Google and Apple provide the "Continue with" sign-in buttons. Paystack takes payments and pays professionals. They handle data for TaskOak and under their own terms for the parts they run.
6. Where it is kept
TaskOak's database and files are kept in Belgium, in the European Union, on Google's systems. If you use TaskOak from Nigeria, your data travels between your phone and those servers. A copy of your bookings and messages is also kept in an encrypted database on your own phone.
7. How long we keep it
Your account and what you sent are kept until you delete your account. Identity documents and selfies are deleted as soon as a member of staff has decided; we keep only the decision. When you delete your account, your listing, messages you sent and photos are deleted; your name and address are removed from bookings the other person still needs; reviews you wrote stay without your name; and payment records are kept for as long as the law requires us to keep them.
Reports and help requests you made, or that involve you, are kept with your name and contact details removed as far as we can, so we can keep people safe. If one is still being looked into, the details needed to finish it are kept separately, only authorised staff can see them, and they are deleted when it is closed or after 180 days at most. Backups may keep a copy of what is deleted for up to 7 more days before it is gone. We keep these records for safety, to finish investigations and disputes, and to meet our legal duties.
8. Your choices
You can see everything TaskOak holds about you: Profile, then Download My Data. You can correct your details in your profile. You can delete your account: Profile, then Delete Account, which also asks you to have signed in within the last few minutes. Before you confirm, the app tells you what is kept: Reports and help requests you made, or that involve you, are kept with your name and contact details removed as far as we can, so we can keep people safe. If one is still being looked into, the details needed to finish it are kept separately, only authorised staff can see them, and they are deleted when it is closed or after 180 days at most. Backups may keep a copy of what is deleted for up to 7 more days before it is gone. You can block people, turn notifications off, and decline to share a photo.
9. Keeping it safe
Data is encrypted on its way between your phone and our servers. The database on your phone is encrypted, and its key stays on your phone. Rules on our servers stop people reading or changing what is not theirs. Staff actions are recorded.
10. Children
TaskOak is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
11. Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters to you, you will be told in the app before it applies.
12. Contact
To ask a question about your data, or to ask for something this policy does not cover, contact us through the support option on any of your bookings.
